Selling Sex on TV

If you have watched the feature on the World’s Sexiest and Wildest TV Commercials, and you happen to be an extreme moralist, you could have had the shock of your life. And to think that here in the Philippines, the Board of Censors already frown at the bikini clad, horse riding, alluring ladies in rhum commercials!

Honestly though, I see those sexy commercials very artistically crafted. Cleverly creative. Smooth and not desperately trying hard nor hard selling (although at one point one wonders what they are really selling - if it is the product or the commercial’s sexy content). Neither are they crude nor rude. Naughty yet amusing though quite erotic, and yes - obviously, they are not meant for general viewing. Yet for all that they are worth strictly on the aesthetic sense, I believe they merit positive reviews.

I understand that those commercials have already been banned from public viewing, and that they were shown on TV only for special feature, intended to be seen of course by adult audiences. As such, they are good to view only for amusement by responsible and legally matured individuals.

It bothered me however, that at that time the sneak preview was aired on cable television on a Saturday here in the Philippines,  there could be kids everywhere who were still awake and watching. I consciously recorded the time that evening which was around 10:30. On weekends, parents are more lenient on their kids’ bedtime so it may be possible that some, if not many minors were able to see the show.

That sex sells, there is no doubt. However extra care should be exercised to protect the children from premature exposure and unguided knowledge on this subject to protect their young psyche from being depraved.

I fervently hope for no more replays of these world’s sexiest commercials.
