Tragic incident

by GEMNAIKA ‘Gem’ M. PALINAR

By now, I bet the whole Philippines and (many parts of) the world already know what happened in ULTRA this morning.

What was supposed to be a happy occasion became an unfortunate incident for many Filipinos struggling just to have a chance to win cold cash from a TV show’s anniversary special because of the killing poverty in our country today.

What happened should serve as a lesson for everyone, and also to our government. May this incident make you (government officials) realize how the people are badly in need of your help. (Though) nobody wanted this to happen, nor did anybody expect such a thing to come up.

This only shows that the people of our nation are really having a hard time to cope with our country’s situation. With all the Value Added Tax making life much harder for everyone who are already struggling to keep their families alive with just little money they have from their daily earnings, what more for those who do not have work? How will they survive all these?

I know I may still be a young high school student who you may say doesn’t even know much about life and hard work. But I can see it in the eyes of those less fortunate people and how they try to survive. For each and every day that God created, I know that in their minds, they are asking themselves what the future holds for them.

I admit and I know that sometimes I spend money for useless things, yet I know that there are many children in the streets scampering to earn and use the money to support their living and buy them food to eat. It hurts me, and affects me more than anyone could ever know. I may be young and not have much experience in life, but I know and see to myself the truth of life.

(Mom’s note: Well, baby… it is time you save up and use money for more worthy causes!)
