Sexy Mom and Niceheart tagged me for this meme. My apologies for not having complied immediately. What took me long was that in my surfing around the blogosphere, I have read others doing this tag too, and I found out we have very similar points. So, it’s like - the excitement is lessened. On second thought however, why not I do it? Firstly, it’s an honor getting tagged by two new friends, and secondly, this can be a way of sharing with you what this new niche has done to me.
Okay - so where do I begin?
I guess there are both upsides and downsides of blogging such that it is doing me both good and bad. Well, to make things more savory, let’s start with the bad first and save the good for last as dessert. LOL.
I can say that blogging is doing me bad because:
1) I gained more weight! Sitting in front of the computer for long periods is a killer. The body is lumped in one chair and it remains there almost motionless for hours that by the time you decide to stop, you will be like a risen dough.
2) I have neglected the household. Only last week, my daughter was complaining that shampoo, soap, toothpaste, milk, cereals, etc. were running out. She said: “Mama, when are you going to the grocery?” I replied, “Later this afternoon, baby.” Afternoon came and I was still glued on my computer. She came to me again. “I thought you were going grocery shopping.” I looked up from the monitor, my eyelids drooping and glanced at the time. “Oh, tomorrow na lang, anak, it’s late na and it’s payday today, I don’t want to wait at the queues.” She left the room without saying a word. Then she came back again. There was no mistaking that I saw a very stern look on her face as she handed me a list: “Things you haven’t done because of blogging”! Oh, my God!
3) I have neglected my readings. I have books to read here. They are arranged in my shelves according to subject. They are thick, most of which are hard bound and require long hours of reading and digesting.
4) I always stay up late at night. Twelve, one - sometimes even two o’clock. Sigh! I’m just very thankful hubby doesn’t mind preparing breakfast for the kids on school days.
5) I get flak from my children. “Ma, you’re so obsessed with your blog!” I retort: “Of course not!” My daughter quickly adds: “Think again, ma.” So - think.. think..think… Oh, my God! Last Monday, she called me from school, happy because she got high score in Science - and what was my answer? “Wow! Galing! That’s my girl! Hey, you gave me a very good topic for my blog.” Now, I’m not only obsessed, I’m possessed!
Well anyway, every person deserves a second chance. And I deserve one. Seriously, those mentioned above need to be corrected. Much as I love what I do when blogging, I have to moderate this activity so that everyone will be happy. ![]()
Okay, let’s go to the upside now.
Blogging is doing me good because:
1) I have rediscovered myself. There is this artist in me that has long been wanting to be let out. Blogging has given the medium for this self expression.
2) I have learned more things about my children. My eldest son had a blog two years back and I would read it to know what was inside his ‘rockish’ mind. My daughter also used to maintain a blog and it helped me discover her adolescent concerns that she found awkward to share with me.
3) My TV and text/call hours are now minimized . Well, this has also cut down our electric and Smart bills. Good news, indeed.
4) I am learning to cook better. Thanks to Pinoycook.
5) I am updated with people, events, news, controversies, hearsays… But I’m not a tsismosa (gossipmonger), huh! I guess it’s a thirst for knowledge which is natural in every person.
6) I met new friends, new acquaintances. This, I should say, caps it all. Even without leaving my seat, I am able to come across with people from all over the globe!
So there, Sexy Mom and Niceheart, mission accomplished!
Now, I’m afraid I bored you.:)
Thanks for doing the meme anyway. I’m also trying to cut back on blogging, especially now that we are quite busy with the kids’ activities. I’m still tired from our very busy weekend. Last night I was helping my son with his homework. Next thing I know he was crying. I fell asleep on the couch! Oh poor thing. So I had to apologize and even though it was past his bedtime, we tried to finish his homework.
Niceheart, my daughter naman, she’s been complaining that I don’t have enough time for her anymore. LOL! Maybe what I should do is to strictly allot only certain hours for blogging so I won’t neglect other duties.
Thanks for visiting again!
u know what? dito nanay ko at habang nandito sya nakita ko kung ano naging epekto ng blogging sa akin…nilinis nya ang buong kabahayan grabeh sabi ko sa kanya itigil na nya pagkikilos sabi nya e bakit ba? sabi nya minsan nya lang daw gagawin yung mga ginagawa ko dito ang sagot ko yun nga problema kasi di ko ginawa yun ginagawa nya sa buong bahay tsk tsk tsk noon talaga I spent my whole days in front of the PC as in wala akong ginagawa maghapon kaya pagdating ng mag gagabi na saka ako karipas ng trabaho tsk tsk tsk.
hi rhodora,
i can totally relate to the bad! kaya nga as a sort of discipline for me and my kids, i decide for us to stick to dial-up so that it doesn’t get too easy and unhindered and effortless (with dsl). of course we suffer for it but i think it works in the sense that the extreme annoyance we get out of a crawling connection lessens our time online. but my kids are complaining, of course
hi rhodora,
i hope this comment works because the one i previously wrote didn’t make it.
anyway, i can totally relate to your bad. that’s why as a sort of discipline for me and my three daughters, i have decided to just stick it out with dial-up because i don’t want to make it too effortless, accessible and unhindered with dsl. of course the crawl of dial-up constantly drive us nuts so that we end up ditching it and doing other things, which is exactly the purpose, so it works
Hello, poppycock! Yes, your comments are in. That’s how it works in my site, all comments are filtered and I do the recovery later when I log on.
Thanks for the visit. Yes, kaya nga, parang nagsisisi ako kung bakit ako nag-DSL. Kasi, unlimited na, kaya napakadali ng access.
I can relate to your BAD number 3. But blogging is fun, no? I think I’d be doing it for another year.
Enjoy!
Abaniko, ay talaga, sinabi mo!
Salamat sa pagdaan sa blog ko!
(:
Good to hear what you have gained because of blogging!
Thanks, Kyels! I’m thankful for all that I gained from blogging, except for the added pounds!
my, my, my! gosh, Rhodora! you really have caught the blogger’s disease. you have to control that gaining weight thing though. am curious about the list your daughter has given you, and about what’s in your husband’s mind while preparing breakfast.
thanks for being game with the meme, and the new found friendship.
Hi Sexy Mom! Husband probably doesn’t mind preparing breakfast so I won’t mind also if he comes home late. Haha!
Thanks too. My privilege to have fellow blogger friends like you.
“I have neglected my readings”
Looks like we are all in the same boat
But again as you said, if there are minuses, there should be pluses as well

Same here with neglecting the household chores. Our living rooms looks like a pigsty, and I’m still glued to the PC doing nothing. My daughter makes a mess but I don’t even bother to clean up. My mom would be horrified!
But you’re right, we need to regulate our skeds and activities so that even if we want to continue blogging, it wouldn’t interfere with other more important priorities.
Ok na ba yung comment system mo? I hope so! I’m copying my comments just the same, in case I have to paste later hahaha.
Yes, bw, as in everything - there are pluses and minuses… just up for keep the balance.
thanks for dropping by.
I found #2 and #5 really funny. Now I know that I’m not the only one guilty of doing those.
Like sexy mom, I wonder what your daughter said in the list she gave you.
Kathy, yes, moderation is the key to everything.
I read in Abaniko’s site, Sidney said, allot time for each interest. I hope I can adopt the same too.
My comment system is okay. If you leave your comment and it says it’s classified as spam, just don’t mind it, coz I ‘ll just recover it when I log on, then it gets to my comment box such as this.
Prab, secret … hehehe.
I think I will quit blogging soon. I loose too much time surfing the net, reading blogs, answering mails, etc.
It is fun but not really healthy.
Oh, no, Sidney, don’t quit blogging! Didn’t it come from you - “allot time for each interest…”?
Hi Rhodora, thanks for visiting my blog. And I agree, blogging takes a a lot of time and effort, it is addictive kaya I tend to turn off my PC so as not to keep going there. And the puzzle has been a good distraction. Buti na lang I have time at work to bloghop. Hopefully di ako ma-fire for doing this. That is if I get caught.
It looks like you’ve been blogging longer than me..goodluck in managing your time. Hopefully, the groceries will be attended to soon. lol
Thanks for the visit too, Leah. And yes, I have gone grocery shopping. LOL. I also am also cutting down on my blogging time now. Siguro, excited lang ako kasi I’m meeting new friends. See you around!
Great meme, Rhodora.
Like you, I’ve been a bit too preoccupied with blogging lately–oh well, maybe will blog on “things I’ve neglected because of blogging..” hmm…sounds ironic!
Gypsy - or what could be more ironic maybe is a meme on - “Things I have done that made me neglect blogging?” Hahaha!
Thanks for dropping by!
