There’s only a little more than two weeks to go before my daughter’s prom night, and we are having a difficulty on where to find the perfect prom dress for her. If only the school administration decided earlier on whether or not they would be holding a prom this year, then we could have made advanced reservation with the local designer here who did her dress last year. But with the limited time, he just won’t accept anymore job orders this late. Now, the only choice left is for us to search for one in boutiques or department stores to hopefully find something neither too dressy nor pricey though I doubt if there are available prom dresses here in our small city. I guess a trip to Manila is inevitable. Sigh!
I hope fellow mommy bloggers who read this can give suggestions.

aww I know how that must feel. The only places I know are the SM and Landmark. I saw a few at Market Market fashion market. There’s also at Divisoria in textile section. They can even sew customized gown or alter it right there. Quite affordable but Divisoria isn’t exactly comfortable to shop. I shop there though,
Thanks, Noemi! I’ll surely take note of your suggestions.
I hope that you’d be able to find something nice for your daughter!
(:
Thanks, Kyels! Problem though, is - she’s a little chubby and most dresses in fashion stores are impossibly small! haha!
Oh dear, that’s a problem indeed. I remember Glorietta in Makati, have great selection of lovely frocks/gowns.
Happy shopping
wow, that’s so nice that you’re involved in finding a prom dress for your daughter! my own mom never bothered with this, you know, so I’m quite touched. for my JS prom, I just borrowed a dress from someone I knew…hehe…kawawarss.
if she has cousin in Phils that has same size with her, why not ship a dress bought from Phils by a relative or friend that had taste for nice gown, youll save airfare somehow.
Pining, okay, that’s an addition to Noemi’s tip - Glorietta, will keep in mind. Thanks. We go tomorrow.
Kathy, iba siguro ang panahon ngayon sa panahon noon. Hehehe…. Based on my observation, mothers nowadays are more doting on their kids, especially when it comes to school activities - ang daming stage mothers, at isa na ako sa kanila… LOL !
Cruise, I think you mean the other way around - that is - if she has a cousin in the States? We are in the Philippines.. hehehe. Anyway, as with her cousins in the States - unfortunately, lahat sila, puro lalaki.
But maybe you’re right - I will also try asking around among her cousins here if they have gowns she can borrow.
You must have bought one by now. I remember my older daughter borrowed from a cousin and my bunso bought from SM for P1,200, though she had a bigger budget, courtesy of a generous tita.
Another thing I remember — finding the right prom date seemed to be the bigger problem then. Haha.
Anna, we begin our search tomorrow.
As with the prom date, fortunately, my daughter studies in a Chinese school with quite conservative rules kaya di uso ang prom dates. hehehe.
rhodora, i agree with everyone. SM Dept Store (particularly the Makati branch) has a wide selection of dresses for proms with prices very affordable, sulit talaga sa budget mo. Marami din sa Landmark, try going there.
And oh, after the dress hunt, don’t forget the make-up and the hairdo.
Goodluck sa prom ng dalaginding mo.
Feng, thanks very much! I won’t be at a loss anymore with all these tips. We leave for Manila early tomorrow.
Sige good luck sa gown hunt. Hope you find it fast, bili na din ng shoes, bag. Tapos you have time to relax .. eat, see a movie. Bonding ng mag-ina. ]
Buti ka nga siguro your daughter looks to you for guidance in choosing their stuff. Ako, pag sinabi ng anak ko: “Mommy, ano gusto mo: ito o ayun.” Pag sinabi ko ito, pipiliin nila ayun.
Bulok daw taste ko.
Hi Rhodora!
I hope you found the perfect prom dress already.
i had fun yesterday with my 3 girls - looking for a prom dress for my 15 yr old. she was invited to a junior’s prom this friday. 2 weeks ago, we got one nice semi-formal dress in MNG (we got it at 70% off). yesterday, we were in cinderella and sari sari in mega mall. there were a lot of nice dresses, though we had to be careful, so that she would stand the chance of having the same dress with another.
i also saw some dresses for those who are a bit chubby in cinderella. good luck, dear
SexyMom,
AnnaManila,
and Midnight Rainbow:
Haaay! Thank God, we found one already. We went to Manila today, (Monday - daughter has no classes, Sunday being Chinese New Year, so Monday is official holiday in her school) and found one at SM Makati. It’s a nice cocktail dress, pomelo color, very reasonably priced. Formal cocktail dress lang kasi alam niyo na ang mga Chinese, palaging emphasis ay austerity kaya bawal ang mga mamahaling gowns. We are not Chinese btw, but my daughter studies in a Chinese school.
She plans to put some additions though. May pagka unconventional nga, pagagawan daw niya ng bolero na light green in color to match her shoes na peach color with light green combination. I can’t imagine the outcome, but I trust her taste because she is one who likes experimenting and goes off with it quite well.
Thanks to all of you for all the tips! Been of great help, really!
I guess, you guys better just take a day trip to Metro Manila for a less stressful prom dress shopping
Eric, tapos na. Hehe. We went there to Manila yesterday, and found this cute dress at SM Makati. Very reasonably priced.
i hope she enjoys the prom. come to think of it, just like weddings or any other important celebrations in our lives, there’s equal fun in the preparations and the actual event.
Cheap Wedding Gown - Why You Should Pay Less For A Wedding Dress
How can I look good in a cheap wedding gown asks the future spring bride. Well why cant you look good is the simple answer to that question. A cheap wedding gown is no different to that of an expensive wedding dress - other than the cost. This is one o…
