Nothing’s gonna change my world

THERE ARE TIMES when I prefer not to talk, especially when I feel like revolting inside; or when I sense unrest around me; or when I”m extremely happy, sad or hurt, or faced with uncertainties; or when words are not just enough to express what I feel and think. And then I resort to music to soothe me.

Somehow, right now for me, this Beatle song is most appropriate. Hope someone listens.

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (as revived by Fiona Apple)

Words are flowing out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting through my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

I didn’t know there was another version, or rather… a cover version of this song. Huli na talaga ako sa balita. :-)

Hmm, going through another mood swing?

This song has got to be my all-time favorite by Lennon. I love this even more than Imagine.

It’s my fave too, Eric. It’s more personal than Imagine, which I believe, is a social commentary.

I like the song, very soothing. Actually, reciting Buddhist mantras are. My FIL gave me several mantras and I recite them when i feel stressed or nervous or afraid, or whenever i just want to be calm.
    I hope you’re okay, rhodora. :)

    Hi Rhodora,

My friend and I were just discussing this song. He thought that George Harrison wrote it and not John Lennon. such beautiful imagery, no?

This song is basically about the meditation experience. Parang napaka peaceful. =)

You should give a listen to the Rufus Wainwright version. too. It’s also good. Though Fiona Apples’ cover is quite unique.

It’s good you found a way to soothe or calm you when stressed, Chateau. We need that every now and then, don’t we?

Oh, yes, I’m okay. Thanks, Chateau!

Ferdz, minsan talaga, mas mabuti ang manahimik, lalo na kapag mainit ang ulo. Kaysa naman kung anu-ano lang ang masabi, makinig na lang ng music, di ba?

    Thanks for dropping by, Ferdz!

there are times when even the most simple of songs would hold meaning, especially when we wax sentimental. just believe, rhodora, and nothing’s gonna change your world.

I love Beatle’s songs. I remember as a young girl in the 60’s, I would listen to it all day till my early teens. It’s good to listen to the lyrics. They had really cool songs. Anyway, just wanted to greet you Happy Mother’s day.
