Question me an answer (part 1)

Some days ago, I asked AnnaManila and Belle to interview me. So now that I am quite rested from my series of trips the past days, I am going to answer the meme, though I won’t follow the format.  I will just answer the questions. No tags. Here are AnnaManila’s questions:

Anna - In your own words and with your experience, how will you answer the question: “Whence is the flower?”

Oh my, Anna, can’t you be a bit more literal? LOL!

Me - Anyway, in answer to that - Well, I guess I’m fine where I am now, where I got to be. I mean, this is what is expected of a woman, right? Get an education, get married, settle down, bear and raise kids, support her husband… Overall - I guess I’m happy though of course, there is no perfect happiness.

Anna - Early in our friendship, you told me we (golden girls) would try to break into the young-dominated blogsphere. Did we? How did we do it?

Me - Oh, yes, definitely! We have gained friends - ‘bagets’ ones, compared to our age. Dimaks, Prab (where has he gone?), Verns, Mica, Sasha, Lizette, Toe, Sheilamarie, Julie…. Oh, I can go on and on! I guess we did break into the blogsphere by just being ourselves, by not pretending to be young in order for us to be accepted by the young crowd. I believe being honest with who we are and what we are is what made us click with these young bloggers.

Anna - What is a typical day for  wife-mother-blogger-law student like?

Me - Typical day… Hmmm.. This has changed because my daughter is now in Manila. And I miss her terribly. (Sorry, can’t help expressing this).  Before, when she was still here, my time and my world practically revolved around her. She was my focus. I don’t know - maybe I somewhat spoiled her. I would drop anything I was doing just for her. Even if I had exams at law school, I would readily adjust my time whenever she needed me.

Now, however, it’s just me, son and hubby in the house. So my days  usually starts with me getting up, preparing breakfast, assisting hubby dress up for work (true, I still do this now), see him off to work. Then I would  attend to some household chores. By 9 a.m., I have showered and dressed up and already in my home office checking on my blog, answering emails, bloghopping and doing my work for our small publication business. In between my home office duties, I attend to my son while he prepares for school. By noontime, I am ready to read my books. Sometimes however, when there aren’t too many reading assignments, I browse some more on the internet.. hehehe… Then by 5:00 p.m., I’m off to school. I get home by 9 p.m., and call it a day.

Anna - What is the secret to your youthful good looks at 50 something?

Me - Know what - I don’t really look that youthful. In person, lines on my face are becoming more and more obvious. And I noticed lately, my cheeks are starting to sag. But I think - some reasons why I sometimes (sometimes, not always) look youthful for my age - are: projection, poise and posture and hair. I don’t really have a facial beauty regimen. I am planning to try Oil of Olay, but until now, I haven’t purchased any of their products.

Okay, so what about projection, poise and posture?

Projection - Project you are young. I observe with some middle aged-women  that they act their age. I don’t really mean - one should act like a child to look young. Project that you are young through your speech. Stop saying you are old. Project through your actions. Don’t  lean on rails or hold on to your son’s or daughter’s arms as if you can’t walk all by yourself. As long as your bones are still able, try to move and walk about like you used to when younger.

Poise and Posture - Don’t slump. Don’t stoop. Walk, move, sit, stand with your back straight. Walk with grace. Hold your head high, don’t look down.

Hair - Just because you are 50 something does not mean you would crop or tie back your hair because that is expected of a woman your age. Wear it long, straight, or styled. Cropped hair does not necessarily make everyone look younger. The same way with long hair. So the best thing here is - find the style that suits you and that will make you look younger.

Anna - What changes or prescriptions in your life have taken place so that the 146/83 bp reading does not appear again.

Me - Ohhh… you got me there. Well, I see to it that I have at least one physical activity every day. Walking, going up and down the stairs, stretching, stationary jogging. I also eat lots of fruits now, especially apples, as recommended by my doctor. Also, I have my carrot juice regimen which I try to have at least once in two days.

There, Anna my dear… I hope I answered your questions well.

Now, Belle… let me have dinner first, okay? :)

    4. Give us five links of blogs that you are planning to nominate at Digital Filipino’s 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007.

    5. And lastly, how do you picture your life without blogging and the internet?

Great tips Rhodora. I like that projection tip of yours. I say those who project themselves well are those who have more self confidence and the result of good projection is charm :)

    Rhodora!

Finally, A’s to Q’s. Pero talaga, after I read what a typical day is like to you, I am surprised you can stilll do these memes. You must have lotsa energy or are an expert in time management or both.

Whence is the flower is one of the lines of your favorite poem The Rhodora. So I thought i wasn’t being obscure when I answered that. I reckoned you have studied the poem upside down, inside out . I just picked that line because it is a question. But anyway, you answered very well.

Like many of your readers, I really liked your thingie about projection. But sometimes, I like clutching my children’s arms or leaning on their shoulders while walking … more for emotional bonding than for physical support,

    Anna, my dear!

I didn’t want to touch on my roots anymore in answering your question: Whence is the flower. I only want to share what I am now, where I am and how I am, hence that answer… :)

Yes, I do too, clutch on my kids, as they do to me also, while walking.

Lotsa energy and time management? hehehe… I just happen to be an expert in juggling my time! Like, when we are going out, I dress up ahead and while waiting for everyone to be ready, I blog! How’s that, huh? :D

    Thanks for the interview, Anna!

micamyx: your first question is rather interesting.

    on to my comment:

i think the best way to be a good blogger (and by good i mean popular, like you, Rhodora) is to be without pretensions. you just write who you are and what you care about. people who feel the same way gravitate to your blog and they become loyal readers because maybe, they see themselves in you or want to be like you. i bloghopped my whole summer off and believe me, the most popular bloggers are not really the most intelligent or the most beautiful—they’re the most real people, as large as if not larger than life.

oh, and short of sounding like a suck-up— i wouldn’t mind looking like you 31 years from now. ^_^

maybe your son would enjoy being the center of your attention, now that daughter is away? just thinking

same as you, i have enjoyed friendships with the young uns.

i just love holding on to my sons, short of clinging, when we walk, you think i should try not to?

Dine, you bet! Nagpapa-beybi siya ngayon, and feeling ‘only child’ siya.. hehehe.

Sometimes, I do that too - cling on them. Or sometimes they put their arms on my shoulder as we walk in malls. Okay lang yun, just don’t show you are limping.. hehehe.
