Question me an answer (part 3)

Thank God! This is the last of the overdue memes that had piled up on me. After this, pass muna ako, mga blog berks, okay? Next week will be the start of law school (we usually start later than others) and as you know, my family right now is split into three. Me, hubby and Aypee in Dagupan; Marco in UP Village and Gem in Ortigas. Oh, if I could only physically and literally split my body in three in order for me to attend to all my duties simultaneously!

Anyway, before I proceed to this meme, let me first give you a little insight on why my title for this post (now on its third part) - is: “Question me an answer”, which is actually the title of a song.

I’m sure not many of my readers know the song “Question me an answer”:

Question Me An Answer-sung by Bobby Van and Chorus (composed by Burt Bacharach)

Question me an answer bright and clear.

I will answer with a question clear and bright.

Even though your answer may be wrong my question will be right.

Question me an answer.

Answer with a question.

This song is taken from the 1973 remake of the film adaptation of the novel “Lost Horizon” by James Hilton. It is all about this place called “Shangri-la” where a group of passengers of a hi-jacked plane were brought by a rescuer. Shangri-la is a place much like a Utopia where everyone lives in harmony and everything is for the best.

————

Oh, well, I can’t elaborate on this any further lest it will eclipse my Interview Meme by Micamyx, who I am announcing to the world, as my adopted niece. Hehe.

Mica is also from Dagupan City and our families are somewhat connected - her late dad was once a student of my husband in college, and, if I remember right, her grandfather, who is a doctor, and my hubby, once worked for the same employer. She is actually from the Rodriguez family in Zambales. And tracing her family roots further, I am bound to conclude she is a relative of comedienne Ruby Rodriguez and the late actor Miguel Rodriguez. I’m right, di ba, Mica?

To know more about Micamyx and read her very interesting youth oriented blog, you can find her here:

The Dagupeña Dreamer

Now, on to the meme:

MICA: In a few years, Marco and Aypee will be walking down the aisle with their “Princess”. As the Queen and SuperMom for the past years, how would you react when one of them tells you: “Ma, I’m getting married”?

ME: Next question na lang, puwede? :)

Oh, I don’t want to think of this yet. But since you asked it, and since it would come soon or late anyway, I will answer you. Since by that time, they have presumably settled with jobs and careers of their own, I will happily give them my blessings. I would feel a little sad, of course - which is but natural. But then, it’s their life and I have to let them go. (Sob! tissue please..)

MICA: I was able to attend the iBlog3 last April. Do you think it is possible for us Dagupenos to have such event this year?

ME: Yes, why not? In fact, I had already been contacted by Wilson Chua of Bitstop, to help organize one. Let’s see what we can do.. Of course, kasali ka, tulungan mo ako, okay? :)

MICA: Are you fond of watching teleseryes? Admit it hehe and give me one telenovela star and the character she played that you really admire.

ME: There were three occasions when I got hooked to teleseryes. But I don’t watch anymore now. In fact, whenever I go home to my parents’ house, I feel like an alien when everyone, especially my sister, would be dropping names I am unfamiliar with - like they were members of the household! Except for Flor de Luna, wala talaga akong idea ngayon kung sinu-sino ang mga teleserye kings and queens ngayon.

The first occasion I got drawn to teleserye was when I got hospitalized for dengue in 1996. It so happened that the Mexican telenovela Maria Mercedes (starring Thalia of Marimar fame) started airing. Having nothing to do while recuperating, I watched it from the start and followed it to its very last episode.

Side Note: At that time, I was already writing as a contributing editor of a local newspaper. On the last airing of Maria Mercedes, (the finale - when they will kiss and make up na.. hehehe) - there was a citywide power outage! But luckily, the following day, a local cable station, with all its powerful generators on, taped the episode from ABS-CBN and aired it in its local cable station. So everybody with cable connection with that host cable company was happy for they were able to watch the final episode, though already a day late.

I wrote an article about this incident and was published. Some local ABS-CBN officials read my article and fed it to their main office. Well, you know how it is with ABS-CBN when it comes to infringement of coverage rights, broadcasting ethics, etc. The network officials apparently did not like what the local cable station did in taping and airing the episode. A lawsuit followed, and my article was supposedly used as basis for the complaint… hehehe.

The second teleserye I watched from start to finish: Meteor Garden… Ayy! Dao Ming Sui! Sang Chai! Wu Se Lei! F-4! I love you! LOL!

And the third teleserye that had me hooked and disrupted my daily schedule, because I would not leave the house until I had watched its airing from 11:30-12:00 noon - Betty La Fea, a Colombian telenovela, in which the voice of Betty was dubbed by Chin Chin Gutierrez.

There, happy now, Mica? :)

MICA: Give us five links of blogs that you are planning to nominate at Digital Filipino’s 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007.

ME: Naku, baka may magselos kung di ko mabanggit ang blog nila...

Well, anyway, I have in mind, the following:

a) Señor Enrique’s Wish You Were Here

b) Noemi Dado’s Touched by an Angel

c) Snglguy’s Inside the Mind of a Single Guy

d) Micamyx’s Dagupeña Dreamer (And why not? Your blog is fast gaining a strong following! And I’m proud to say it’s not just a cutesy-cutesy blog, ha! It reveals a responsible, warm and wise individual in your person - despite your youth.

e) Rhodora’s Time and Tide (O, di ba? Love your own! At least, inilagay ko sa huli - kaya medyo humble pa ako nyan! hehehe)

MICA: And lastly, how do you picture your life without blogging and the internet?

ME: Well, without blogging and the internet, I would still be super busy. (Eh, kelan ba ako hindi naging busy…) With a family and home to look after, plus my work and studies, I have more than enough to fill my hands with. But then… blogging and the internet enables me to enjoy life at a different scale. So I guess, life without these two may be a little bit boring and less exciting.

Okay, mission accomplished! Now, Mica - my turn to interview you…

BTW, the 1973 musical version of Lost Horizon was a downright flop at the box office and is included in the list of the worst films of all time. And it’s also one of the reason why Burt Bacharach and his songwriting partner Hal David, split.

I blogged about this, including that of the original 1937 film version of the book that I’ve seen. Check out this link in my blog.

I tried pasting the link in here but it won’t upload. Just check out my 2/21/07 entry na lang for that article, hehe. :-D

Thank you for nominating my site, Rhoda. But I wonder what do I influence and to whom. My regular visitors are a whole lot smarter than I am and very sure of themselves, as well as for what they want in life … hehehe.

This is a very good ‘question and answer’ segment because it is straightforward and eye-opening.

I remember when Marima was on some years back, maybe a decade ago, and anywhere in town I could hear people talking about it. It was phenomenal, really historic for Philippine television…

From what I have gathered, Betty La Fea is the equivalent of Ugly Betty in the U.S. I also love that show. :)

Wow, you’re going to law school? And have to be mom to all your kids? Mahirap yata yan, hindi ko kaya but I am sure you can do it!

I enjoyed reading your interview especially the next-question-please and yes, I remember that song from Lost Horizon.

Have a happy (even if busy) week!

it’s the lawyer in you, Rhoda working now–before answering Micamyx’s questions, you did your homework, did a research on Micamyx’s roots and tracing the relation.

as to the boys’ walking down the aisle, don’t worry about it, it will just come. my JAngelo’s was announced, prepared, done, now i have 2 lovely grandkids (girls) and a boy coming in August–they’re the bonuses!
