Let me share with you some quotations which I found while rummaging through my files in search for my old cases in Labor Law.
From my favorite Chinese philosophers/educators:
“If you overesteem great men, people become powerless. If you overvalue possession, people begin to steal.” - Lao Tzu
” When people see some things as beautiful, other things become ugly. When people see some things as good, other things become bad.” - Tao Te Ching
“Being and non-being create each other. Difficult and easy support each other. Long and short define each other. High and low depend on each other. Before and after follow each other.” (Tao Te Ching)
“It is not the failure of others to appreciate your abilities that should trouble you, but rather your failure to appreciate theirs.” - Confucius
Now, here are some more from other famous persons:
“Happiness, not in another place but this place - not for another hour, but this hour.” - Walt Whitman
“The block of granite which was an obstacle in the pathway of the weak becomes a stepping stone in the pathway of the strong.” - Anonymous
Nice, huh. Well, read more:
“You’re either part of the solution or part of the problem.” - Elridge Cleaver
Now, the following made me cry several “Ouches!”:
“Old age is like a plane flying through storm. Once you’re aboard, there’s nothing you can do.” - Golda Mier (Ouch, ouch, ouch!)
“IF WOMEN DIDN’T EXIST, ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD WOULD HAVE NO MEANING!” - Aristotle Onassis (Ohhh… More Ouches!)
Okay, that one from the late Greek tycoon Onassis hit me bad.. But, no - I should stand up for all women out there. So, here’s for my fellow Gabrielas:
“A WOMAN IS LIKE A TEABAG - YOU CAN’T TELL HOW STRONG SHE IS UNTIL YOU PUT HER IN HOT WATER” - Nancy Reagan
Now, that’s more like it….
NOTE: This post is inspired by the following blog friends:
SenorEnrique who, from time to time runs a series of quote entries in his blog to complement his wonderful photos.
Myepinoy who has an interesting entry with the title “Words, words and more words” which you can check out here.
Till next entry, folks!
How wonderful these quotes are, most of them I’ve never heard or read before and I could thank you for this. To be sure, they are so worthwhile.
Thank you for the wonderful quotes. It seems that you’re feeling better now compared to yesterday
I love the last one from Nancy Reagan… so true!
i like the one about the teabag. i read it a few years back, and it still inspires me the same way.
Beautiful quotes!
Thank you for sharing with us readers.
(:
i used to collect quotes in college even buying books on sale full of quotes
now, that’s easier to collect on the net but i don’t do it now
any news on the blogger event there with wilson?
Hi , bloghopped from Annamanila =)
I thought that it was Eleanor Roosevelt who said that bit about women being like teabags……
I like keeping in mind quotes like those in this entry , they are very good reminders on how to best conduct ourselves / lives.
Nice entry..
Thanks for sharing these nice quotes. Here’s one of my all- time favorites from that philosopher cat, Garfield: “All the world’s a cookie jar. And all the men and women merely crumbs. I happen to be one of the chocolate chips.” Are you feeling crumb-y or chocolate chip-y today?
In all fairness, Onassis quoted that after he married Jacqueline Kennedy, who’s been known to shop till she dropped. Even her late husband, JFK once remarked, “Is there a shopper’s anonymous?”
Have a great weekend, Rhoda.
I also like reading timeless quotes. I’d like to one day say something so great that people would quote me.
Sometimes, we read a quote and it strikes a chord di ba? We recognize it to be true\, sometimes nga we have written about it — mas maganda lang pagkasulat nila?
Wil, hahaha, like you I sometimes wonder if ever i can say or write anything that other people will quote long after I am gone.
Thank you very much.
