GEM one time kept bugging me about our family heirloom. “Where is it, Mama? Do we have one?”
Embarrassed because I knew there was none, I just told her: “Search for it.” (Very safe answer, huh.)
She knows I am not keeping any jewelry box because I am not fond of jewelry. So instead of searching in my dresser, she searched in the kitchen.
I was in the bedroom when I heard scuffles in the kitchen while Gem did her search. Curious about what was going on, I went out - and there - I saw - this set of silverware which she neatly arranged on the table.

“This is going to be our family heirloom, Mama,” she announced.
Wow, I am so proud of my daughter. She really gives so much value to our family. Despite her tender age, she already understands the significance of having a thing of worth to bind the present and future generations of our family.
“Well then it is yours for safe keeping, and for handing down to your children,” I told her.
I am really so thankful to God for giving me Gem, my real gem of a daughter.
What about you? What is your family heirloom?

Note: This set of silverware is made of nickel. It was bought by my husband in Bangkok more than a decade ago. (Photos courtesy of my Samsung camera phone. “Trying hard” photography by this “trying hard” me.)
You should seriously consider getting a much nicer digicam than using what you have in your cellphone, Rhoda. I’ve a feeling you’ll immensely enjoy taking photographs
Thanks, Eric - but I’m just having fun toying around with my cam phone. hehe. And besides, Gem’s enlisting for the second sem by Monday, so there goes my budget. hehehe.
Come to think of it, we don’t even have a single thing of value that would qualify as “family heirloom”… tsk tsk.
Naku, Sngl - that set of tableware does not have much pecuniary value naman e.. It’s the sentimental value of a thing that qualifies it to be an heirloom.
That’s a nice set of tableware, talaga!
(:
Hmmm … I doubt my family has any family heirloom. Because they never mentioned it before.
Thanks, Kyels! Well, I never knew too that we had one, until my daughter found and claimed it.
i love you mama. I miss home. I miss all of you. I wanna goooooo hoooommmmeeee!! :’(
I love you too, anak! Mwaaahhhhhhh!
Ay ayaw ko ikaw uwi muna. Magugulo na naman ang mundo ko dito. hehehe.
