Weddings and clan reunions

My previous post on our New Year family reunion is now again followed by another get together, this time, not only of my immediate family but my whole clan.

Filipinos are clannish. If you are planning to run in a local election, you might as well consider first the clan factor. Yup. Those who usually win are those who come from big clans. Thus it has become common practice for candidates to identify their roots by inserting family names of their fathers’ fathers’ fathers in their handbills and posters, to hopefully amass more votes.

Well, I don’t have plans to run in any election, but I might as well mention here my family roots. Who knows - someone out there reading my blog might find affinity to my ever expanding clan.

I belong to the Manlongat-Montemayor family from the flourishing town of Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.

I don’t really know many or our relatives. Funny thing is that my husband knows more of them than I do. But I do know some family names that bear some connection with us. From my father’s side (Montemayor) - Manuel, Rosario, Tamayo, Tinte and Mamorno. And on my mother’s side (Manlongat) - Pascua, Ceralde

We are a big clan. Proof to this is this photo where my sister, sisters in law, brothers, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and grand nephews, grand niece and cousins take a wacky pose on the wedding of my sister Eva’s (extreme right, second row) son two Saturdays ago. This is not all of my clan, however, because many of our relatives back in the province were not able to make it to the wedding held at the Parish of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Quezon City.

I promised everyone to post more pics (albeit wackier) here, so have a feast:

How do you know that the names are connected?! I’m a little confused over here. Oo, I am aware that Filipinos are very clannish and that’s really good because there are connections and bonds with other family members. It’s good to see everyone so bonded together.

    Awww, really sweet newlyweds!

    :D

I like the carefree attitude of that little guy relaxing at the bath tub :)

Celebrations such as this is a time to reunite the family. You’re certainly blessed with a big and prosperous clan, no wonder why you entertain thoughts about getting into politics hehe :)

Bingskee, di ba, during election time, candidates suddenly remember their “long lost or forgotten” relatives? :)

i came from a political family. the perez of nueva ecija and the serapio of bulacan so i got my share of political life. and i agree with what you said come election time surnames really fill their posters. i remember one candidate for councilor having the name “Gina Molina Garcia Hernandez” telling to the entire city that she is a relative of eveyrone. too bad she lost.

nice sets of pics by the way, what a love family.

Oh you belong to the Perez clan of politicians in Nueva Ecija.! I won’t be surprised if one day, you will embark in politics too. I’m sure a brilliant lawyer like you would make a good leader in your city. :)

    Thanks, Norman.

Thank you, Julie. It was a joyful wedding, unfortunately, I wasn’t there.

Incidentally, my son, Marco took lots of pics of that church. He described the images of saints there: beautiful and handsome. hehehe.

So beautiful faces in a beautiful clan.

My wife also has a very big clan—the Calderons from Bulacan—that even towards Nueva Ecija, they got close relatives.

A big happy family is such a glorious existence.
