Walking the line

lineman

“Sanay na sila.” (They’re already used to it.) This was my husband’s comment when I showed him this picture which my son Aypee took with his cam phone while we were driving home this afternoon.

But, jeez… these linemen can really give me the creeps. Just look at the man in this picture. He’s like doing a trapeze act while walking on the cables. The cables may have support from the posts alright, but he may lose his balance and fall on the concrete. He is not strapped either.

I don’t know, but I see this as downright negligence.

Yes, I agree with you. Walking those lines without a harness should be illegal. And those men should also have good insurance coverage.

It’s an all too familiar scene in a country where the worker’s safety is thrown out of the window to save a few measly bucks…

You’re right Toe. Such an act should be illegal, though is done right under the noses of our unmindful officials.

Zherwin, pag naputol ang cable, o nakuryete siya, ano pa, di dead siya! Bilib nga ako sa tapang ng mga taong ganito, e. Di kaya sinasadya, kasi insured sila? Hay, naku.

Snglguy, as far as I know, these men work under companies that have subcontract deals with the telephone or electric companies here. They save money, maybe - but think of the damages involved if accidents happen. .

That is a rather dangerous stunt, seriously. I would not want to imagine what’d happen to him if he fell …

    Firstly, totally dangerous.

Secondly - what the heck does he think of these phone line cables - ropes?? He is damaging these cables big time by causing tension with his weight ! :(

At first glance I thought the guy was yet another one of those suicide cases climbing high places in Manila.

But a lineman without a harness could just be suicidal as well.

At a glance I thought the guy was yet another case of suicide in those very high places in Manila.

But a linesman without a harness, in such elevated area, is might as well just suicidal.

I’d have submitted that picture to the newspapers, and labeled it the height of stupidity or something.
